How releases are verified

The verified table and the live monitor serve different purposes. A model is added to the verified release list only after I can match it to a first-party announcement, documentation, release note, or another reliable source. The monitoring feed is only a discovery aid; an item appearing there is not the same as editorial verification.

I keep the two sections separate so a fresh headline cannot silently become a confirmed release. Dates refer to the public release or announcement described by the source, not the date this page happened to detect it.

Why capability has "converged" recently: the flagship models behind the leading closed assistants now sit within a few points of each other on demanding benchmarks like PhD-level science questions — meaning the gap in raw capability between top providers has narrowed even as pricing strategies diverge sharply.

Frequently asked questions

Where release details come from

These are the official news or documentation pages of each company. Dates and details on this page are matched to announcements published there, so check the original announcement for the full picture.

How often are new AI models released?

Major providers now ship meaningful updates every few months, with smaller incremental updates even more frequently — the pace has accelerated notably compared to just a couple years ago.

Should I switch tools every time a new model launches?

Generally no — as covered in our Choosing Your First AI Tool lesson, constantly switching based on hype costs more in re-learning than most incremental gains are worth.

Where can I see full details on a specific model release?

Check the provider's official blog or documentation for full release notes — this page tracks the headline releases, not exhaustive technical changelogs.
